Student Life
Whether your student is interested in sustainability, international business, student government, or sports, the Office of Student Life sponsors over 40 clubs for students to participate in campus life.
The campus is a vibrant and active community, providing students with leadership opportunities and ensuring they receive a well-rounded education.
Student Senate
The Student Senate plays an important role in the decision-making process at the college. Student leaders
participate as voting members on many of the College's advisory committees and provide
services and activities including voter registration, blood drives, and campus events.
Athletics
A member of the Western State Conference, the Athletics Department at SBCC offers intercollegiate athletic competition for men in baseball, basketball,
cross-country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Intercollegiate
athletic competition for women is offered in basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer,
softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
Campus Card
SBCC uses a One Card system which makes the student ID card very useful. The card
can be set up as a debit card and money allocated to different venues on campus or
simply with a universal (FLEX) application good everywhere. Parents, friends and others
can also add value to a student's Campus Card through the Guest Feature.
Clubs
Participating in clubs is a great way to meet new people, make friends and be part of SBCC's vibrant campus
life. Clubs and organizations promote not only campus and community involvement, but
also personal and professional growth. During any given semester, SBCC has approximately
40+ active clubs and offers students the opportunity to form new clubs as well.
Cyber Center
The Cyber Center is equipped with WiFi connectivity and twenty-six computer stations
for student use. The lab is also equipped with comfortable lounge-style chairs for
students who want to relax or read a book. The entire campus is wireless, so students
may also work in the cafeteria or in the lounge outside the Cyber Center. Students
may also access computers at the Eli Luria Library and the Cartwright Learning Resources Center.
Drama & Music
Opportunities abound to participate in performance activities in theatre and music.
The SBCC Theatre Group has a full season of performances, utilizing students in all areas of production:
costuming, makeup, stagecraft and acting. Concert productions include choir and chamber
singers, jazz, symphony, concert band, and electronic music.
Honors Program
The Honors Program is a rigorous series of stimulating academic courses taught by some of the most outstanding
SBCC professors. Honors courses prepare students for success in upper division courses
after they transfer.
Multicultural Events
The college provides a variety of events throughout the year that focus on diversity
and multiculturalism. The events include music and dance performances, lectures, and
discussions.
Special Events
Throughout the year, the college hosts a variety of events including a Merchant's
Bazaar, Career Day, Transfer Day, Outstanding Students Award Banquet, Commencement
Breakfast, and Commencement.
Visiting Writers and Artists
SBCC regularly hosts readings, lectures, and discussions with distinguished poets,
writers, and artists, including internationally recognized authors Aimee Bender and
Gioconda Belli, and Guggenheim Fellow photographer Ernesto Bazan, to name a few. The
Creative Writing department and the Poetry Club also host readings with local authors
and student writers, and the Atkinson Gallery features exhibits and discussions with both established and up-and-coming artists.
Student Activity Sticker
A Student Activity Sticker includes free admission to all regularly scheduled home
athletic events, preview nights for several drama and musical productions, as well
as discounts at the Campus Bookstore and merchants throughout the community. Students may purchase an activity sticker
for $10 online through their Pipeline account.
Study Abroad
Students may spend a semester or intersession studying internationally. They will
receive academic credit while experiencing firsthand the culture of countries such
as Spain, France, China, Italy, England, Germany and the Czech Republic. Visit the
Study Abroad site for upcoming programs.
