Landon Brown

Landon Brown head shotArtist and architect Landon Brown currently serves as Director of VisionArc, a New York based design research practice and think tank dedicated to exploring the role of design within complex social and environmental issues.   Regarding his education at SBCC, Landon feels that “SBCC provided an environment that encouraged broad opportunities and resources for serious academic and creative pursuits.”  Landon recalls, “As I prepared to transfer to the four-year visual arts program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the critical support and creative challenge that I received through the guidance of professor Ed Inks nurtured my own sense of possibilities that I might not have necessarily considered."  At SBCC Landon was in the very beginning stages of a career that would have him developing an artistic practice, which would carry him to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  With that training, he later received a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University.  Landon adds, “Today I practice architecture and design as a form of strategic research to help address large-scale social and environmental challenges.  While seemingly far from the artistic work that began with Ed Inks, the regular challenge in SBCC's Sculpture Department to build an increasing capacity for critical thinking was the most important seed for my own personal and creative growth between then and now."

Trained as both an artist and an architect, Landon has worked with a range of leading design practices such as Toshiko Mori Architect, Hashim Sarkis Studios ALUD, Urban A&O, and Cook + Fox Architects.  He has also worked in collaboration with OAB Office / Carlos Ferrater Partnership, and OMA/AMO/Rem Koolhaas - a leading international partnership practicing architecture, urbanism, and cultural analysis.  His work has been exhibited in Cambridge, Chicago, New York, Singapore and Beijing.  Originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Landon now lives and works in New York City.
